Akwasi Brenya-Mensa is a Ghanaian-British interdisciplinary artist and polymath. As an artist manager and DJ for a number of musicians, he visited 30 countries in two years, absorbing different cultures, cuisines, and cooking techniques. Outside of this work, Brenya-Mensa’s contributions to the scene reverberate far and wide through The Spectacular Empire, a music label and art collective for Black art and music he founded with artist GAIKA in 2017. He made his food debut via a street food pop-up, which led him to high-profile festivals, contract catering, and ultimately to the creation of his supper club, Mensa, Plates and Friends, in 2019. Its eclectic dishes offer a deep dive into the various places he traveled to. After 10 years working with food, Brenya-Mensa opened his award-winning debut restaurant and bar, Tatale, in July 2022 at The Africa Centre in London. Born in Ghana and developed in London, Tatale is a contemporary Pan-African concept that tells stories through food, art, and heritage.
